Women in Sport Week
Same Energy
Women in Sport Week is an annual Sport Ireland initiative, supported by its stakeholders (National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Partnerships, and other funded bodies), and will take place from March 2nd- 8th, 2026.
Women in Sport Week was created to coincide with International Women’s Day, 8th March. A day widely celebrated across the world focusing on the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women as well as highlighting the challenges, barriers and inequalities that still exist.
Women in Sport Week supports the objectives and actions outlined in Sport Ireland’s Policy on Women in Sport (WIS), which identifies Visibility as a key pillar.
First held in March 2021 and repeated every March since, WIS Week is a significant and successful week of celebration, promotion, and enhances the visibility of women’s sport and women in sport.
Sport Ireland's theme for this year is “Same Energy”. Same Energy challenges everyone to ask whether they are bringing the same energy, excitement, commitment and visibility to women’s sport as they do to in men’s sport. Whether it's planning for the next international fixture or deciding on budgets for the year ahead, Same Energy is a call to everyone; sports administrators, fans, coaches, officials, organisations, and communities to get behind women and girls in sport and match that energy.

Women in Sport Week Resources ⬇️
Sport Ireland have created a Women in Sport Week schools’ engagement activity, designed to increase awareness, visibility, and normalisation of women in sport among young people. Aligning with ‘Same Energy' the toolkits encourage students to reflect on how women and girls show the same commitment in sport and why they deserve the same attention, belief, and respect.
The toolkits are designed to be easy for schools to participate in, requiring minimal preparation, while delivering meaningful classroom engagement. See links below for two age-specific toolkits for the SESE curriculum in primary schools and the SPHE curriculum in post-primary schools. These are free to download and use at your school to celebrate Women in Sport Week!
