Follow the forestry tracks, country roads, farm boreens and pastures around Knockalough for spectacular views of the countryside. The southern end of the trail takes in the townland of Foilagoule and on to Knockacaranduff Commons, where clear sightlines to the Galtees, the Knockmealdowns and Slievenamon are achieved from the viewing platform at the old trigonometric station.

The first section of the route is a 1km steep trek in a field. As one comment said, they had an issue with muck and cow dung 💩 but for me, this was not the case. At the 1km mark you come back onto the road and then it's a small walk (400m) to a farm lane then gravel lane and that goes on for another 600m until you cross more fields which this part found tough as its quite tough but worth it. That goes on for a hundred metres or so and then your in the forest, and from there it's very scenic but again, there are a few tough climbs on it. At the 4.1km mark be sure to follow the purple arrow thats going off to the right (off the fire road) and follow that until your next arrow this section alot of people are missing this because the map keeps to the fire road which this isn't the proper way!!. I would definitely recommend this route but a good level of fitness is required!! Just follow the colour of whatever route your taking and you will be fine. Total agent for me on my garmin watch was 438metres total climbed, distance was in or around what was suggested. I give 4 stars because the car park is tiny, you'd be lucky to fit 3 cars comfortably.
