On forest track and path, this trail provides a high level route across the slopes of Maulin Mountain with magnificent views into Glencree and over the adjacent mountains and valleys. Ride Rock looks over Powerscourt Waterfall and the Great Sugar Loaf, and in the distance Dublin and Dublin Bay can be clearly seen.

Very nice trail I’ve walked for years but now ruined by speeding mountain bikes ploughing up hiking only trails, ignorant walkers who won’t keep their dogs on leads or even under control and a noticeable increase in litter. I used to collect a small amount every time I was there but with Covid 19 I’m just too nervous now.

I have done this trail a few times now, I suggest that the best times of year are in late May or end October as the foliage is SPECTACULAR! It is a great alternative to trails closer to the city. It is not suitable for very young children or anybody depending on access with need for wheels. Well signposted route. Suggest supporting footwear especially for the transverse on the higher slopes. Dogs ON LEADS are fine.

This trail is nice for a Sunday walk with good views out to the coast, and at one point overlooking Powerscourt Waterfall. I would definitely not put it down as strenuous. At most it was moderate. There was a section about half way through the loop which was strenuous but that lasted only about 50m I'd say. The rest of the 6km was easy. It was a little disappointing in that regard. The majority of the trail was a gravel path too, which was a little disappointing. I think that's mainly the Wicklow Way section. But nice views all the same.

Beautiful trail and stunning scenery. If you love the mountains, you will love this. Bring plenty of drinks and snacks and the top of Maulin can get pretty cold so bring warm clothing just in case :-)
