Canoeing

Canoeing Ireland are the National Governing Body for paddle sports in Ireland. These paddle sports include canoeing, kayaking, sea kayaking, Stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), dragon boating and white water rafting. Canoeing Ireland have a network of affiliated providers who administer bespoke programmes for specific groups of people. For those looking to try out or get involved in any of these paddle sports we recommend contacting Canoeing Ireland to find out the best pathway for each individual.

Kayaking/ Sea Kayaking

Canoeing Ireland and affiliated providers run level 1 and 2 skills courses for beginners across the country. The Level 1 Kayak Skills course focuses on fundamental paddling skills. Level 2 kayak Skills progresses to enable participants to kayak safely and competently on flat water and Grade I rivers as a member of a group being led.

Similar to Level 1 and 2 Kayak Skills, Canoeing Ireland provide a Level 1 and 2 Canoe Skills course for those interested in open canoeing:

Level 1            Fundamental canoeing techniques on flat water.

Level 2            Basic Canoeing skills for Grade I water.

Stand-up paddle boarding

Canoeing Ireland provide three skills courses for those looking to get involved in SUP; Sit-on-Top Flat Water Skills, Sit-on-Top River Skills and Sit-on-Top Sea Skills. Each of these three Skills Courses would enable participants to paddle safely and assist in rescues in the chosen environment.
