Sport Ireland has announced today that the Roundwood Reservoir Upper Vartry Trail will reopen fully after being partially closed for a number of months.

Sport Ireland is pleased that difficulties that caused the closure of a section of the trail have now been resolved. Sport Ireland would like to thank and recognise the willingness and cooperation of all parties involved, specifically, the landowners, the neighbouring business, County Wicklow Partnership, Wicklow Uplands Council and Wicklow County Council, to find a safe and appropriate resolution. It is an important and valued amenity in the local community, and everyone involved was supportive and committed to re-opening the trail.

Sport Ireland wishes to thank the trail users for their patience while this matter was being resolved.

This is an idyllic trail forming a loop around the shore of the upper part of the Vartry Reservoir beside Roundwood. It is just 6.4km long and graded ‘easy’ so it is the perfect trail for many walkers.  During the closure part of the trail was impassable and it could not be used as a loop. The full trail route has now been reinstated and the entire loop can be enjoyed again by the local community and walkers from further afield, as it was before the closure.
