Coaching people with disabilities

Sport Ireland supports the participation of people with disabilities in sport. This work is guided by the Sport Ireland Policy on the Participation in Sport by People with Disabilities (2017)

Coaching People with Disabilities is an integral part of the Coaching Development Programme for Ireland (CDPI). To this end in 2009, Sport Ireland in conjunction with their disability sport partners, launched a Coaching People with Disabilities Framework and resources on how National Governing Bodies can include this important topic on the coach education courses in their sports. This framework and resources are currently being reviewed and updated to include an on-line resource.

Sport Ireland has designated Active Disability Ireland as it's support agency for Participation Sport. Active Disability Ireland has a range of education and training workshops and materials to support coaches and other leaders in including people with disabilities in sport
