Local Sports Partnership

We’re having quite a year, and we all need a little help to get us through. Starting with a plan to do one small thing that will keep you well is a great way to look after your mental health and wellbeing. Sport Ireland has partnered with Healthy Ireland to help you keep active and well this winter. 

Keeping active and being outdoors, even during the winter, is important to help physical and mental health and wellbeing. The Sport Ireland network of Local Sports Partnerships are working hard in their communities to deliver programmes and support to help people be active and keep well. 

The below list of programmes gives an idea of what the network of Local Sports Partnerships are offering. If you are interested in joining any of the programmes below contact your Local Sports Partnership and get active and well in your community. 

Cavan Sports Partnership

Operation Keep Well - Online Tai Chi Class

  • Online Tai Chi Class for 6 weeks with meditation included. Tai Chi is a low impact exercise class that has many benefits including improving balance, strength and flexibility, plus can reduce stress and anxiety levels

Operation Keep Well - Online Line Dancing Class

  • 6 week online line dancing for all ages. Line dancing is a fun-filled, dance fitness class that is suitable people of all ages and fitness levels.

  • 6 week online body circuits class for adults. This is a full body workout with two classes per week

Operation Keep Well - Online Pilates class  

  • 6 week online  pilates class for adults aged 50+. Pilates has many benefits including increased strength, flexibility, and endurance. It is gentle and modifiable, while also improveing and maintaining mobility.

Programme 6 – Operation Keep Well - Virtual Challenge

  • 6 week virtual challenge. Participants will receive  a wall planner and a weekly email with daily fun challenges and ideas to get active and encourage them to Keep Well and active.

 Walk to Wellness

  • The Walk to Wellness  programme aims to increase daily step count and ensure students are regularly reaching the National Guidelines for Physical Activity of 10,000 steps per day with the support of a ‘Buddy’. The programme will also raise awareness on wellbeing topics such as body imagine and mental health in partnership with Mental Health Ireland and BodyWhys.

Donegal Sports Partnership

Programme – Older Adults Activity Planner

  • 5,000 editions of the Older Adult Home Exercise Plan have been distributed across Co Donegal as part of a collaboration piece with Age Friendly Alliance; this will now be followed up with short instructional videos to bring the activity resource to life, which will be available for download or viewing through the DSP Activity HUB

Balanceability 'Learn to Cycle'

 

 

  • Parents Resource. Step-by-Step guide supporting parents to teach their children how to ride a bike. Targeting families at home during COVID restrictions that may have more time on their hands. Once registered, parents are added to a private Facebook group where visual aids and regular mentoring support will be available from a qualified Balanceability instructor each day.

Fitness classes

 

  • Online chair aerobics Fitness  delivered by Paul Smyth Inclusive Health & Fitness in conjunction with the Irish Wheelchair Association.  Each session is 30 minutes long and there are 6 in total. These classes are for clients of the Irish Wheelchair Association in Donegal.

Couch to 3k 

  • A 6-week Couch to 3k Walk / Jog Programme tailored to help complete beginners and people looking to get back into activity to start the year.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership

Couch to 3K

  • 6 week virtual Couch to 3km -Whether you have never jogged before or if you just want to get more active, Couch to 3K is an easy way of getting more energy and feeling healthier. This programme is for everyone, who would like to get from walking to jogging, but might be a little unsure on how to get started. The programme starts with a mix of walking and jogging to gradually build up your fitness & stamina. It is aimed at beginners and based on your time and ability to participate.  Includes warm ups, stretching, cool downs, weekly activity plans and information videos sent to participant throughout the 6 weeks. Participants will receive a medal and other materials at the end of the programme. 

5K TO 10K

  • 8 week virtual programme.  A follow on from the Couch to 3K and Couch to 5K programmes, with 3 sessions a week participants have the option to opt into a WhatsApp group or receive information by email each week. Warm ups, stretching, cool downs, weekly sessions and information videos sent to participant throughout the 8 weeks. Participants receive medals and other materials at the end of the programme.

Men On the Move

  • Men on the Move is a free 12-week physical activity programme aimed at adult men over the age of thirty to support them to become active, have fun and improve their fitness levels in a social group. The twice weekly one-hour physical activity sessions online focus on aerobic exercises for 30-40 minutes and then works on core strength and flexibility for twenty minutes. A variety of different sessions take place over the 12 weeks some of which include walking, circuits and running

Interval Training Walking Programme

  • A 5 week programme designed to help people safely and gradually work their way up to a 5km walk and is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. The programme increase cardiovascular endurance and physical & mental wellbeing over a 5-week period without adding too much stress or strain to your body. Participants have the option to opt into a WhatsApp group or receive information by email each week. Warm ups, stretching, cool downs, weekly sessions and information videos sent to participants throughout the 5 weeks. 

IWA Multi Sports Club

  • A 10 week virtual multi-sport club for children with a physical disability. Weekly zoom sessions for 10-20 children with supervisors facilitated by the LSPs and Irish Wheelchair Association. Each week the participants will have 10 minutes of meet and greet followed by 40 minutes of a different sport each week

Older Adults Online Exercise Classes

  • Join Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership and Siel Bleu for a 12-week online exercise programme for over 55's and a second one for over 65's. They are free, interactive and will include a phone call with the instructor before the first session to make sure the participants are prepared and if they have any particular needs

Fingal Sports Partnership

Programme - Fingal Digifit

  • This programme is made up of 20 home training sessions to help you stay active at home.

Programme - DigiFit for All

  • This programme of adaptive exercise  videos are ideal for people who prefer more gentle activities or who have limited mobility. The activities shown are perfect for those who have recently been cocooning and combine stretches, upper & lower body exercises and target games for a complete workout. Remember to consult your doctor before exercising and keep to the social distancing guidelines if you want to make those target games a little more competitive.

Nutrition Webinar Series

  • Online nutrition series are led by a qualified nutritionist and looks at various aspects of nutrition such as: winter nutrition, food for mood and healthy habits. Rach session is one hour long and suitable for adults.

Run Your Town - Family Orienteering

  • This family orienteering event can be done in a number of towns around Fingal using your mobile phone on a short, medium or long course. it is suitable for children and adults of all abilities

 Women in Sport Masterclass

  • On Thursday 28th January 2021 Fingal Sports Office and the Tyrrelstown / Mulhuddart Community Sports Hub presents their second episode of the Women in Sport Coaching Series. The guest is Cliodhna O'Connor, Athlete Development Coach and former Dublin Senior Ladies Goalkeeper. Cliodhna will be in conversation with Cliona Foley, renowned freelance sportswriter and presenter of Women's Sports Podcast "Off The Bench". The Women in Sport Coaching Series aims to encourage women to step forward with confidence and get involved in coaching primarily or in sport in general. This masterclass takes place on Thursday 28th January 2021 at 7 pm live on Zoom.

Programme 5 – HomeFit

  • Free online classes are open to all levels of ability and consist of 30-40-minute sessions delivered by qualified coaches with 3 classes per week delivered live online at 10:00am. The sessions required 'little to no equipment'  and are suitable for adults. The classes available are: Body Mind Movement, Full Body Workout and Chair Exercise

Online Hip Hop & Zumba Classes for children

  • Online weekly Hip Hop & Zumba Classes will be broadcast live via Zoom over 3 weeks in February and March 2021 from 6pm to 7pm. The sessions will be led and choreographed by Donna Moran (Irish Hip Hop Master Champions, Fit Kids/Fit Teens Dance School) and are suitable for children aged 12-17 years.

Programme 7 – Active Club Challenge

  • 6 week challenge for sports clubs to set up walking, running or cycling groups to which both non-members and members can be a part of. Registered clubs will receive training information, access to nutrition and exercise webinars to encourage maximum involvement. All activities are subject to public health guidelines.

Kildare Sports Partnership

Operation Transformation Couch to 5K

  • This 5 week Couch to 5km programme is aimed at anyone looking to kickstart their journey to a healthier life. It includes two live zoom sessions with Eric Donovan on Monday and Friday from 10 - 11am, these will include a strength exercise session and tips and advice for reaching your goals and getting the most out of the programme. Participants will be given a walk/run session to do in their own time on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Eric Donovan will hold a zoom group support call on Thursday evenings from 7 - 8 pm each week for participants to ask any questions they may have and get further support on their journey. Recordings of all sessions will be sent to all registered participants if they are unable to attend the live sessions with Eric

Buggy Buddies 

  • The 6 week virtual Buggy Buddies is a safe and effective exercise programme for women in the perinatal period, delivered in a positive and supportive group environment, where there is ample opportunity to ask questions and seek out the support they may need. The exercise programme involves body weight and walking exercises, each week focusing on a specific and relevant area . All pre-natal women must be within the first 34 weeks and cleared for exercise by their obstetrician.  Post-natal participants must be at least 6 weeks’ post-partum and cleared for exercise by their GP to register and take part. Before the programme starts all participants will be required to complete a Physical Activity Readiness screening form.

Community Outdoor Activity Leaders Award - "The COLA Programme"

  • This 12 week online course aims to help communities and individuals to "Keep Well" and become resilient during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. This programme is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to confidently and competently organise and lead outdoor initiatives for leisure-based activity in their community. Training is provided through a blended learning approach. Participants will be required to participate in a range of Online Workshops, Zoom Conference Meetings and Face to Face outdoor sessions (working strictly within the parameters of the Government’s re-opening Ireland Roadmap).
  • Walking Leader training covers the theory and practical aspects of establishing and leading Nordic Pole, Urban, Hill and Trail Trekking. To complement the development of the Blueway and Greenway infrastructures in County Kildare, practical walking leader sessions will be held along our Canal Towpath Trails (post lockdown). Supplementary skills training is delivered by recognised service providers and participants will receive accredited certification on completion of each upplementary module.

  • This 12 week programme is catered for people of all ages and abilities.  The workshops cover nutrition, importance of getting active, aerobic exercise and resistance training, balance and flexibility, exercise prescription for healthy heart, metabolic health, arthritis, osteoporosis and setting health and fitness goals.   • Online physical activity programme for Men aged 30+ who want to get back into physical activity. This programme focuses on improving functional fitness incorporating elements of aerobic fitness, mobility, flexibility and strength into each session.

Adapted Men on the Move

 Mental Health First Aid

  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the initial help given to someone who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional support is received or until the crises resolves. this 2 day course is suitable for  sports coaches/volunteers/ community representatives

Virtual Men on the Move

  • Men on the Move is an 8 week activity programme which is aimed at men aged 30 and over to get them active, have fun and improve fitness levels. It involves weekly activity sessions which are led by you the participant. You don’t need to be fit to take part – the training sessions are structured so that you can find the level appropriate for you to join and progress your fitness at a pace to suit you! Your Area leader is there to guide and support you with weekly plans and check ins.

Couch to 5K

  •  Have you ever wanted to walk, walk/jog, jog or run a 5k but didn’t know how to go about it?  Couch to 5k is an 8 week programme that assists you to build up your fitness enough so you will confidently walk, walk/jog or jog a 5k. The programme costs €20 and is a virtual programme, linking in with your tutor for a weekly session where they will do a warm up with you and then send you on your way to complete part of your weekly plan and then return for a cool down with you after your session. Suitable for teenagers and adults. 

Inclusive Online Camp for Children

  •  Inclusive online camp for Children that can be enjoyed by all - sport & games, story time, arts & crafts. Fun for all the family,  take a break from your usual day, have fun and feel good.  Starting Jan 25th each day for 5 days, one hour of fun online games and activities for all the family.

Pilates - Improvers

  • The Improvers class is suitable for people who have some experience of Pilates and want to progress a little more. Zoom class will take place at Wednesday 20th January at 8pm for 4 weeks. Don't worry if dates don't suit you we can send you the video of the class each week so you can complete at a time that suits you. Both classes are deliver by Siobhan Delea.

Beginners Pilates

  • Beginners Pilates is for people who would like to try Pilates and are complete beginners. Improve your strength, flexibility and balance from the comfort of your own home with experienced Physiotherapist. This beginners programme for adults costs €10 for the 4 weeks. Zoom class starting Wed 20th January at 7pm.

 Men on the Move

  •  Men on the Move is back with a Men Only podcast and exercise video each week starting Monday 25th January. Cost will be €10 for 4-week programme. Men will have access to 3 sessions per week - 2 podcasts which are suitable for beginners (walking pace) and 1 exercise video per week which focus on strength and some stretching.

Yoga

  • Join a relaxing yoga class online weekly for 4 weeks. The 30 minute classes will focus on clearing the mind and taking a breath. Classes start Monday 25th January. Suitable for complete beginners and cost €10 for 4 classes.

 Move Well Videos

  •  Meath LSP in association with Meath County Council, Age Friendly Meath and Sport Ireland have produced an exercise DVD for older people and people with a disability. The resource includes 4 dance and 4 seated Pilates classes which can all be completed from your home. The resource is also availa ble on USB so it can be used on a laptop, tablet or Smart TV.

 Learn 2 Cycle Virtual Edition

  • Meath LSP has linked with the Cycling Safety School to provide a virtual edition of the Learn 2 Cycle programme. The format consists of an information Zoom call in week one followed by weekly instructional videos and one to one virtual support. The programme is aimed at children with a disability aged 6-18 years.

Run Jump Throw Online

  • The Run Jump Throw Programme has moved online. This online weekly slot will see participants enjoy 30 minutes of fun movements, challenges and dance delivered live by an experience tutor. This is aimed at children with autism or an intellectual disability aged 6-18 years.

Skipping for Families

  • Skipping is a great way for people of all ages to be active. Meath LSP can provide you with a skipping rope and a booklet containing teaching points and links to tutorial videos on various skills. Skipping is an activity that requires little space and resources and can be done either inside or outside.

Active Teens Pilates

  • Discover the core-strengthening and total-body-toning benefits of this online Pilates programme specifically aimed towards teenagers and young people. This 6-week online course increases muscle strength, tones abdominal muscles while also enhancing muscular control of your back and limbs. This is an all over body workout – feel the burn!

Cool Movers & Groovers

  • 6 week online programme for children aged 4-12.  Two sessions will be delivered each week by a qualified fitness professional and comprise of a wide range of fun activities from exercises on the spot to dance moves to keep children active while having lots of fun. Sessions will help children learn FUNdamental movement skills such as agility, balance and coordination in a fun way. These sessions are ideal for both sporty and non-sporty children

 Active Mothers

  • Active Mothers introduces new mothers (from 6 weeks postpartum or 12 weeks post caesarean) to classes that comprise of slow and controlled gentle exercises working on pelvic floor, dialysis recti and all core muscles. Two sessions will be delivered each week by a professional fitness instructor (with specialist expertise in post-partum activity based exercising) and will comprise of a wide range of gentle exercises to rebuild strength.

  • Active Women introduces adult females to a variety of online exercise classes. These sessions are ideal for both beginners and those who have previously tried introductory classes.

 Active Adults

  • Active Adults introduces adults who may be less agile or older and have less flexibility to take part in intensive exercises to a variety of specially formatted online exercise classes. Two sessions will be delivered each week by a professional fitness instructor and will comprise of a wide range of bodyweight activities through aerobic, toning and mat exercises to help tone up and strengthen all over body. Classes will help improve fitness, muscle tone and core strength balance and agility. These sessions are ideal for both beginners and those who have previously tried introductory classes.

Couch to 3km

  • Couch to 3K is an easy way of getting more energy and feeling healthier.   • This 6 week walking programme aims to help people with low levels of physical activity to become more active through walking. By implementing a locally based and focused programme, and working directly with communities, this initiative seeks to empower local communities to increase their physical activity through walking.

  • The Feel Good 5K is a free 6 week walk/jog/run training programme for people of all ages and abilities throughout County Sligo. There are 3 tailored training programmes which participants can select from. Each training programme contains three weekly sessions and can be complete in under an hour.

Let’s Run

Yoga for All

  • This programme aims to enhance participant’s strength, coordination and flexibility, while encouraging body awareness and self-esteem. It can also reduce anxiety and stress and promote a sense of calmness. It is delivered online via Zoom over six weeks for both services and individuals with a disability.

 Let’s Move

  • This programme is being run in association with WIT Arena. The programme will run over six weeks online via Zoom, it is available to both services and individuals with a mild to moderate disability. Participants will be instructed by Shane Dineen (WIT Instructor) over 60 minutes with the aim of improving their cardiovascular and functional fitness.

Online Intermediate Yoga Programme

  • Online yoga class for all abilities. Starting Tuesday 12th January there are 3 different days/times available - Tuesdays at 6.30pm, Wednesday at 7am and Thursday at 10am. This programme is for anyone with some experience of Yoga - Otherwise, any level of experience is suitable as postures and pranayama will be adapted as needed.

Inter Club/Centre Step Challenge

  •  Starting Monday 18th January, this 4 week virtual programme is directed at people with a disability attending a HSE Day Services Centre, Special School or an inclusive team within a Sports Club. A versatile challenge that can be supported by carer or support worker/ or sports coach virtually.

5km to 10km

  • Starting Monday 18th January  this 6 week online programme is suitable for intermediate joggers who want to build up their distance. Each week participants will receive an email of their jog/run plan for that week. They will be asked to take a screen shot of their weeks runs and email to wicklowlsp@wicklowcoco.ie.  On completion of the programme participants will receive a free T-Shirt

Sport Active Wexford

Couch to 3km

  • 6 week online programme to help participants  reach 3km. Participants will receive encouragement and advice along with a training plan and everyone who completes the course will receive a Sports Active gift pack.
