Sport Ireland is once again delighted to partner with RTE, Athletics Ireland, Dublin City Council, Healthy Ireland and the Office of Public Works for the 2020 Operation Transformation 5K in Phoenix Park this Saturday, February 22nd.

With the event now fully subscribed, over 5,000 runners, joggers, strollers and walkers will join the five Operation Transformation leaders in the beautiful surrounds of the famous Dublin parkland for the 10th edition of this national event.

Among those in attendance on Saturday will be Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin Tom Brabazon who is looking forward to welcoming participants from all over the country: “The Operation Transformation 5k is always a brilliant event and sees people from all over the country come to the beautiful Phoenix Park to achieve their goal of running or walking 5k.  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the start and finish lines and cheering you along your way.  In particular I would like to acknowledge the work done in my city by the Dublin City Sport and Wellbeing Partnership who have set up Operation Transformation Walks to encourage people to get out and active.”

According to the latest Irish Sports Monitor 2019 Mid-Year Report, 46% of the population regularly take part in sport, representing 1.78 million participants. Running remains one of the most popular sports with 7% of adults taking part in regular running sessions

Over 55,000 participants have taken part in the free Operation Transformation 5k Runs in Phoenix Park and in Cork since 2011.

Sport Ireland is delighted to be working with RTE, Athletics Ireland, Healthy Ireland and the OPW on the Operation Transformation 5K for the 10th year running. The Irish Sports Monitor once again highlighted that running is one of the most popular forms of physical activity. The Operation Transformation 5k is a key event in the promotion of healthy living. It has played a significant role in inspiring many to change their habits and move towards a healthier lifestyle. I look forward to seeing another big turnout of participants on Saturday.
