Ireland Continue To Build Towards the Euros (WOMENS HOCKEY)

Even though the domestic club season is coming to a close this month, anyone involved in Gene Muller’s senior women’s Irish squad will remain busy, fit and playing lots of hockey.

Ireland has just completed a successful Easter training camp in Dublin which was intense incorporating four matches against Italy (Ireland won three of these matches and drew the other).

Those in Gene’s squad wont have much time to rest as the month of May sees them competing against both the Dutch and the Netherlands Antilles.

First up Ireland will play against the Dutch, currently world champions, on the 21st and 22nd May in Manchester. These matches will give both sides an opportunity to pre-test the Bell Vue pitch which is the chosen venue for the EuroHockey Nations Championship next August.

“Our next competition will be on the 21st and 22nd of May in Manchester against the Dutch.    The intention is to have a competition intense build-up period in preparation for the European championships.” commented Coach Muller.

“The Dutch series and events like the four nations and the Celtic Cup will form the basis of our preparation for the Europeans.” he continued.

Ireland will continue their preparation when they compete against the Antilles a week later in a three match series on the 26th, 27th and 28th of May on home soil in Dublin.
