Table Tennis: A Silver haul for Ireland

The 6 Nations Under 14 and Under 17 Championships took place in the University of Warwick, Coventry, England over the weekend.

The Irish team, had an impressive weekend, with the Under 17 Girls and Under 14 Boys winning Silver team medals, while Paul McCreery won silver in the Under 14 singles and Susan Nealon was third in Under 17 Girls singles.

The Irish Under 17 Girls team returned with a Silver medal.  Susan Nealon, from Ballina and Sarah Kenny, from ALSAA Dublin, performed excellently. They beat Scotland 3-2, Guernsey 4-1, Wales 4-1 before going down to England 0-5. Susan also reached the semifinal of the Singles where she lost to the eventual winner and English No. 1 Under 14 player Melissa Wright.

The Under 14 Girls team of Chloe Nealon, Ballina, Rebecca Kenny and Sara Dolan, from ALSAA, beat Wales 3-2, Isle of Man 5-0, Scotland 3-2 and lost 1-4 to Guernsey and lost 0-5 to England. Rebecca Kenny reached the Quarter final of the Singles event where she lost to Karin Le Fevre, ranked No 5 in England at Under 14. The team finished third.

The Under 14 Boys team also performed excellently to finish with a team silver and an individual silver. The team was Paul McCreery, Belfast, Sam Hanley and Sam Logue, ALSAA, Dublin. They beat Scotland 3-2, Guernsey 5-0, Wales 3-2 before going down to England 1-4.
Paul McCreery reached the final of the singles event, losing to Liam Pichford who is ranked No. 3 in English Under 14 rankings.

The Under 17 boys team finished in fourth place losing to England, Wales and Scotland and had victories over Guernsey and Isle of Man.

In the singles event Gavin Maguire, Mark OFlynn,from Eastpoint and Daniel Keenan from ALSAA, reached the quarter final stages.
