Superleague and National League Finals set for University Arena 24/25 March

The 2007 NIVEA For Men SuperLeague Finals will be played in the University of Limerick Arena on March 24th and 25th.  The event will be jointly hosted by Limerick Lions (Men’s SuperLeague Club) and UL Aughinish (Women’s SuperLeague Club), with the full support of the Arena Management.  “We are delighted that two clubs have come together in this manner, it is an excellent concept for the sport of basketball, and we are looking forward to the prospect of the Finals taking place at such a top class venue”, says Pat Duffy, Chairman SuperLeague Men’s Board and CEO Sport Coach UK.

The NIVEA For Men SuperLeague Finals will have the finest basketball talent in the country on display over the weekend, with the League champions in four categories being decided – Men & Women’s Division 1, and Men’s & Women’s SuperLeague.  The event will also have the semi-final games from the NIVEA For Men SuperLeague, which means a total of 6 high calibre games in this festival of basketball.  Claire Kennedy the NIVEA For Men Brand Manager added, “This is NIVEA For Men’s third season involved with the Men’s SuperLeague, and with the Finals event itself, we are delighted with the fact that the event has gone from strength to strength.  We expect to build on this impact and further develop the exposure of the NIVEA For Men brand amongst the players and supporters of basketball”.

The Finals of League competition demonstrates the level of dedication and commitment of the best players in the country over the course of the entire season.  St Vincents the current NIVEA For Men SuperLeague champions have hit a good run of form of late that should see them make the playoff stages, but Team Montenotte Hotel Cork (Glanmire) the current Women’s champions look like they will relinquish their crown without making the playoffs.  We look forward to a great weekend of Basketball and an extremely exciting few weeks in the respective leagues as we head toward Ireland’s very own “March Madness”.

Also in the Men’s Division 1 Competition, newcomers to the League this year, Team Meadowlands St. Brendan’s Tralee will be hoping to qualify for the Finals after their good run in the Southern Conference with 12 wins from 14 games presently.  In the Northern Conference, Sligo All-Stars are also looking towards the Finals Weekend, not to mention the Dublin Conference, where current National Cup Holders Tolka are still in the shake up with all to play for as they battle it out with Eanna and UCD Marian for the top of the League Table.

In the Women’s Division 1 Southern Conference, Singleton’s Supervalu Donoughmore are focused on the Double Crown this year after already taking the silverware in the National Cup but news from the Sligo All Stars Camp is positive with them hoping for the result to be reversed if there is a replay of the National Cup Final as the League Final decider.  We cannot rule out, last year’s holders, Mercy College where confidence is high in the camp as they hope to be strong contenders again this year.
