Shooting: Silver Medal for Derek Burnett

Derek Burnett won a Silver Medal in the Men’s Trapp event at the ISSF World Cup in Maribor, Slovenia over the weekend.

Derek had to undergo a tense six man sudden death shoot out to qualify for the final. In the final Derek had the joint highest score of 22. As the scores from the first day are added to the score in the Final, Derek had to be satisfied with the Silver Medal behind gold medal winner Jesus Serrano from Spain. However, Derek had the satisfaction of relegating Italians, Giovanni Pellielo, the current world record holder and Massimiliano Mola, winner of last World Cup event to the minor places.

Derek is supported under the Irish Sports Council International Grant Scheme at World Class Level. In 2007, Derek received an allocation of €20,000. Derek also qualifies for an additional allocation of €5,000 for a Performance Incentive Payment as a result of his performance in Maribor.
