NCTC Announcement of appointment of new NCTC Director

06 Apr 2006

The National Coaching & Training Centre Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Michael McGeehin as the new Director of NCTC.  Michael will take up the position on Monday 10 April on an interim basis for one year.

Michael is a PE graduate of Thomond College in Limerick and a Master Tutor with the GAA.   He had a distinguished career in the Irish Army and retired at the rank of Commandant.  He has led the Donegal Sports Partnership since its inception in 2001 and leaves it following the successful completion of its first Strategy.  During this time, Michael has worked closely with a broad range of sports on various initiatives relating to coaching, training and participation for example, the Buntْs programme with both the FAI and IRFU.  Michael has also built up a vast experience of coaching through his involvement with both Gaelic football and soccer teams around the country.

Michael takes up his position at a transitional period in the history of NCTC in light of other developments in the sports sector particularly in relation to High Performance.  Michael will have a key role as the liaison between the NCTC, University of Limerick, Irish Sports Council and Department of Arts, Sport & Tourism.  In particular, Michael will be leading on the identification of the future role in relation to NCTC and coaching in Ireland.

Mr. Séan Donnelly, Chairman of NCTC said: “Michael McGeehin has the required skills and attributes to lead NCTC through this period of transition and to ensure that there is a continuity in the standard of services offered to National Governing Bodies of Sport.  His appointment is a major step forward for the Centre and will allow us to progress a number of important projects such as the finalisation of NCDP 3”

The Board is confident that Michael will be an excellent addition to the NCTC team and will make a very positive contribution to the work of the Centre in the future.
