Ireland Win U/20s Rugby Grand Slam

The Irish U/20 Rugby Team enjoyed Grand Slam glory in Stadio Santa Columba, Benvento on Friday 16th March. Following victories over Wales (17-15); France (19-16); England (13-6), and Scotland (31-8), the Irish completed the Grand Slam with a 36-25 win over Italy.

The team, ably supported by former Irish Rugby Internationals Phil Orr; Manager and Eric Elwood; Coach produced a stunning comeback from a 20-7 deficit powering to a 36-25 win over Italy to clinch an unprecedented Grand Slam and Six Nations Championship double. No doubt some of these players will be household names in the not too distant future and hopefully will emulate the wonderful successes of the current  Senior Squad (3 Triple Crowns in 4 seasons).

Congratulations to all involved!!!!!

The Irish Sports Council supports the operational costs of the Underage National Rugby Squads, including the u/20s. A number of the u/20’s squad are members of the IRFU Academy, which also receives support from the Irish Sports Council.

Despite a record breaking eight tries win against Italy the Senior Men’s Squad narrowly lost out to France for the Six Nations Championship.

The Irish Women’s team also defeated Italy and finished the season with two successive victories.
