Golf: Glory for McElhinney

Brian Mc Elhinney has won the first ever PGA EuroPro Tour event to be staged in Ireland at Roganstown Golf and Country Club Co Dublin. This is the 2nd Irish victory on the Euro PRO tour this season following Com Moriarty’s win at the first event in Wensome Valley, UK.

Brian, a member of the North West Golf Club in Fahan Co Donegal, came from behind with four birdies in his final eight holes to overtake Robert Steel and Christopher Hanson to clinch the title.

The PGA EuroPro Tour season is held over 16 events and the third event of the EuroPro Tour season will also be held in Ireland at Faithlegg Golf Club, Waterford from May 16th to 19.

Brian, a former British Amateur Open winner, is supported by the Team Ireland Golf Trust. This year he received an allocation of  €15,000 from the Trust.

The Team Ireland Golf Trust is a public private partnership designed to provide support, both financial and non-financial, to emerging Irish professional golfers to help them realise their potential on the world stage.

Golfers on the scheme have access to the sports science and medicine network already provided by the Irish Sports Council to high performance athletes on the International Carding Scheme. Access to these services is administered by the National Coaching and Training Centre in Limerick.
