Fiona Murtagh Named June 2025 Sportswoman of the Month

The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month June 2025: Fiona Murtagh (Rowing)

The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman Award for June 2025 is rower, Fiona Murtagh.

Fiona Murtagh was one of the women’s four to win an Olympic bronze medal for Ireland at Tokyo 2020. 

The oarswoman went solo this year and showed her quality when she took silver at the European Rowing Championships in Bulgaria in what was her first ever singles final at elite level. 

At the end of June, the Galway woman repeated the feat at the prestigious World Cup regatta in Lucerne, finishing in silver position again behind Britain's Lauren Henry - this time in a closer race. “My time will come,” she said, post-race, of her quest for gold. There is no doubting Murtagh’s commitment in pursuing that course and we wish her every success in doing so.
