European Youth Olympics:  Two more Medals for Ireland

Ireland won another two medals at the European Youth Olympics in Belgrade yesterday, bringing the total of medals so far to three.

Noel Collins battling 42 degrees heat won the silver medal in 2000m steeplechase in a time of 5.52.06, smashing his previous personal best by 14 seconds. Noel a member of the Omagh Harriers Club said "It was an amazing feeling stepping onto the podium, I never experienced anything like this before”.

The second medal of the day, a bronze, was won by Niamh Whelan in the girls 100m. These successes follow swimmer Grainne Murphys’s bronze medal in 400m freestyle on Monday.

Niamh and Grainne are in the Irish Sports Council International Carding Scheme and are supported at Junior Class level.
