"Irish Club Selection beat England"

IRISH Women's boxing was celebrating last night (March 2nd)  after recording a convincing 6-2 victory over England in Waterford.

World and European champion Katie Taylor-ranked number one in the world- led the way for the Irish club selection stopping Amanda Coulson - ranked 9th in the world - on the 15 point rule (19-4) in round two at a packed Dungarvan Sports Complex.

Taylor's comprehensive win was all the more impressive as she had stepped up from lightweight to light welterweight en route to chalking up her fourth victory of 2007.

There were wins also for the impressive quartet of  Christian McMahon, Kelly Harrington, Marsha Halpin,  and Sinead Kavanagh against a full strength England squad.

Kavanagh was involved in a extremely close bout with Natasha Jonas and edged out her opponent on a count back after
both boxers were locked at 16-16 at the end of the final round.
