ANTI DOPING Anti-Doping Disciplinary Hearing

16 Jun 2005

The Irish Sports Council announced today that the Irish Sport Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel has determined that Ciaran Mooney, a rugby player with Thomond in the A.I.B. League Division 2, has committed an anti-doping violation.

The Panel found that, contrary to Article 2.1 of the Irish Anti-Doping Rules, the presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolite, cocaine, was found in a sample of his urine collected in-competition testing at the Thomond v Old Crescent match at Old Crescent Rugby Club in Rosbrien on the 4th day of December, 2004.

Mr. Mooney has been sanctioned, subject to his right to appeal within 14 days, by the imposition on him of a period of two years ineligibility from participation in all sport, effective from the date of his provisional suspension, the 23rd day of December 2004.

The hearing was held under Article 8 (Disciplinary Process) of the Irish Anti-Doping Rules and this announcement is made pursuant to Article 15 (Public Disclosure) of the Rules.
