An Post Cycle Series Tour of Sligo

12 May 2010

The An Post Cycle Series got off to a great start on Sunday with the Tour of Sligo.  Cycling legend Sean Kelly joined 1,400 cyclists of all ages and abilities who got out on the roads to enjoy the beautiful scenery in glorious sunshine.  Sean took the opportunity to cycle along with participants in all three events.  First off at 9am was the 160km Ox Mountain Challenge with 420 cyclists involved. This was followed by the biggest event of the day, the 60km Lough Gill Circuit with 660 cyclists involved, and at 12 noon 320 enthusiastic cyclists headed for Hazelwood on the 10km event.

The Irish Sports Council would like to thank Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership for organising the event, and congratulate all who participated.

The An Post Tour of Sligo is part of the An Post Cycle Series which is supported by the Irish Sports Council.  It comprises five recreational cycling events across the country between May and September.  The next event is the An Post Tour De Burren which takes place in Clare on Saturday, June 19th. For more information see www.claresportspartnership.ie
