National Governing Bodies
National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport are the organisations through which sport in Ireland is organised, developed, and delivered. Sport Ireland recognises more than 60 NGBs, each of which operates as an independent, autonomous organisation responsible for the governance, management, and development of its own sport.
Sport Ireland works in close partnership with NGBs to fund, support, and strengthen their work - from grassroots participation to elite performance athletes. Strong NGBs mean a robust sporting system, and investing in their capacity and governance is central to how Sport Ireland achieves its mission.
While NGBs retain full responsibility for their own governance and sporting activities, Sport Ireland supports their work through targeted funding and support services.
