Canoeing Ireland WWW - Workshops, Workouts and Wellness - Online Winter Series Based on the format of last winter's WWW online series we will seek to build on its success by increasing and diversifying offering to increase even further member engagement.
We will also run an additional online winter safety campaign via the socials to complement the safety webinars we ran last winter.

Resume of last year's WWW online series:

For many paddlers, boats/boards and paddles tend to get a little dusty during the colder months as activity decreases. Canoeing Ireland sought to innovate as part of the Sport Ireland Winter Initiative, by finding new ways of engaging members through what has traditionally been a slow-paced part of the year for many in the paddling community.

WWW – Workouts, Wellbeing and Wellness – online winter series of webinars was our solution; tapping as much as possible into the incredible professional knowledge of our membership and staff, CI ran 16 webinars over a 7-week period in January and February with 600 member engagements and 25 facilitators.

Informed by a member survey sent out in December, the objective was to offer content that meets the needs and wants of our diverse membership. The online format meant there were no geographical barriers to participation and combined with quality targeted content this led to our high engagement number of 600 registrations at a time of year in person events tend to grind to a halt.

The programme of the series tried to offer something for everyone in the most accessible format possible; From paddling specific conditioning workout – “Shoulder Activation and Stability”- to environmental awareness – “Paddling and the Planet”- to developing emotional intelligence on the water – “Feeling the Fear”- to female specific content -“Core for the Female Paddler” to water safety “Safety and Rescue- Ask the Experts”.

CI also engaged the expertise of Sport Ireland Institute professionals in the series; Dr. Sharon Madigan lead nutritionist delivered a very thought provoking “Nutrition for Paddlesports” webinar and Jessie Barr OLY provided great insight and tools through the “Mental Skills and Strategies” workshop. Sport Ireland delivered an “Anti-Doping Workshop” that engaged many athletes and coaches.

Along with great membership engagement, another highly valuable outcome of the WWW series is its lasting digital legacy. The recorded videos are now hosted on CI’s YouTube channel as an open resource for the paddling community to benefit from for years to come.

Survey will go out beginning of November. The series then runs for 7 weeks throughout January and February 11/3/2023 2/29/2024 There is a specific social media campaign to support the series.
This year we will add an additional winter safety campaign in November/December prior to the winter online series starting
