IRISH SPORTS COUNCIL Sports Council expresses sympathy to Kearney family

30 Jun 2006

The Irish Sports Council has expressed its sympathy to the family of Caroline Kearney following her tragic death in France on June 28.

Caroline Kearney was an outstanding athlete and this was recognised by the Council with her inclusion on the International Carding Scheme for elite athletes at Junior and Developmental levels since 2000. Caroline was three times national female triathlon champion (2000, 2001 & 2002). In recent years she was focused on qualification for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, an attainable goal for an athlete of Caroline’s ability.

John Treacy, Chief Executive: “Everybody at the Council is sad and upset at the news of Caroline Kearney’s tragic death. She was a talented athlete who was focused on representing her country at the highest level of international competition. On behalf of all my colleagues I want to express my sincere condolences to Caroline’s family and to all of the community of triathlon in Ireland who are deeply shocked and saddened by the accident on Wednesday”.
