An Post Tour of Sligo: Women on Wheels

17 Apr 2012

Well known Sligo ladies were on their bikes recently to promote 'Women on Wheels' as part of an initiative to encourage more women to take part in An Post Tour of Sligo over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Over the past few years the An Post Tour of Sligo has seen greater numbers of male participants involved and for 2012 ladies are being encouraged to get on their bikes and be part of a great sporting occasion. Local Chartered Physiotherapist Shirley Foley who herself is planning to take part in the 60K Lough Gill Circuit states "Cycling is one of the best ways to achieve good health and fitness regardless of whether it is a High Nellie, Hybrid or Racer you are peddling. Cycling is essentially an aerobic exercise and will train the heart and lungs to be stronger, reducing the risk factors that lead to a heart attack. Regular exercise reduces the likelihood of heart attack by 50%.

Physiotherapist Shirley Foley concludes "Even with all these health benefits some of us cycle for fun so ladies dust off your bikes, head out to the countryside with new like-minded friends and family and join 'Women on Wheels' and be part of the An Post Tour of Sligo 2012.
