European School Sports Day

European School Sports Day (ESSD) sees schools across Europe take one day to celebrate sport and physical activity on Friday 26th September. The initiative aims to promote physical activity on an international level and involve as many children and young people, schools and organisations as possible.

Research shows that being active makes students healthier and better learners in the classroom. School spirit improves too with fun and inclusive team sports.

In Ireland, ESSD is organised by the Irish Primary PE Association and has involved thousands of primary school students over the years. ESSD returns as part of European Week of Sport 2025 and aims to reach as many students as possible.

The ask for schools is simple: commit to 2 hours of physical activity on Friday 26th September.

Please register your school here. or check out the Irish Primary PE Association for more information on ESSD.
