Philip Breslin from Mayo

You really need boots here as some of this is in open boggy fields. The fields bit is at the peak and a few hundred metres either side of it. If going clockwise the descent is not marked and you can get into bother as we did, going through a whitethorn wood with cattle in it. I am a farmer so I wasn't overly bothered but if there was a bull it wouldn't have been safe. Bulls are normally passive enough but generally they only kill or maim people once. A couple of posts with purple arrows would do the trick. I even retraced our steps to the summit to make sure. The summit - great views. Nice deserted village on the route. A dead plantation of Ash trees on the route as ash dieback is wreaking havock locally this year.
