Sport Ireland and Motorsport Ireland jointly announced today that Brian Cherry has committed anti-doping rule violations.

Mr Cherry tested positive for the Cannabinoids/Carboxy-THC (Cannabis) in In-Competition Testing on May 3rd, 2026, contrary to Articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the Irish Anti-Doping Rules.

On June 23rd, 2026, Sport Ireland notified Mr Cherry of the Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs). He was advised that a three-month ban would apply if he could establish the violations occurred outside competition and was unrelated to sport performance.  Mr Cherry did not respond.

On July 20th, Sport Ireland issued a letter of charge to the athlete noting that Sport Ireland had no option but to seek a ban of two years. No response was received.

On September 14th Sport Ireland notified Mr Cherry that as he had failed to dispute the Anti-Doping Rule Violations, he had been deemed to have admitted these violations.

The sanctions imposed include a period of ineligibility (or ban) of two years with effect from May 3rd, 2026 and the disqualification of his results from and including May 3rd, 2026.

The reasoned decision is available at Sanctions | Sport Ireland.
