Sport Ireland has officially opened new tennis courts at its Campus, further enhancing its commitment to providing world-class, accessible sporting facilities for all.

The two courts are ideally suited to Ireland’s damp climate as the recycled rubber surface is water-permeable, ensuring efficient drainage and minimal downtime – perfect for the unpredictable Irish summer.

This development is part of Sport Ireland Campus’ vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive hub of daily activity in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The new courts join an expanding roster of all-weather, floodlit outdoor amenities that already cater to soccer, Gaelic games, rugby, hockey and more.

Charlie McConalogue, Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Postal Policy, said: “These new courts are just one example of the facilities that we have been trying to build up and down the country. Our athletes need access to high quality, accessible facilities to achieve their best. Facilities like this show a sports system that is growing in this country, in part thanks to significant increases in state support.”

Located near the Multisport Pitch Pavilion, the new courts are supported by amenities including changing rooms, player facilities, offices, and meeting spaces — all designed to ensure a top-tier experience for both casual users and aspiring athletes.

In partnership with Tennis Ireland, the new courts will be a central hub for year-round community programmes, including school sessions, kids' holiday camps, and grassroots participation initiatives.

Tennis Ireland aims to introduce and grow the sport among young people and local residents alike.  A range of programmes will target women, teenagers, families and more.

Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May said: “We’re all about building growth in active sports participation. Indeed, our latest research shows that we should reach and possibly slightly exceed 50% by 2027. Facilites such as these great courts will allow us to cater to the public’s sporting needs.”

Constructed of a cutting-edge Poraflex surface, the courts are made with recycled rubber and solvent-free adhesives — aligning with Sport Ireland’s ongoing sustainability goals.

Michael Murray, COO of Sport Ireland Campus said: “These new courts are a fantastic addition to Sport Ireland Campus. They reflect our commitment to providing world-class sporting facilities to the community while also prioritising environmental sustainability and community engagement. We’re proud to partner with Tennis Ireland on what will be a flagship facility for tennis.”

Tennis Ireland CEO Kevin Quinn said: “These courts mark an exciting milestone in our mission to bring tennis to more people, in more places, more often. Through our partnership with Sport Ireland Campus, we’re not only creating opportunities for play and performance, but also embedding tennis at the heart of inclusive, community-based activity. We look forward to seeing players of all ages and abilities enjoying these courts year-round.”

Additional projects in the pipeline for the 500-acre Campus include the National Velodrome and Badminton Centre and the National Cricket Centre, both are integral parts of the long-term masterplan for the Sport Ireland Campus Masterplan.
