I can only endorse what was said by previous reviewers. This is a really lovely and varied hiking route with excellent sign-posting and attractions to keep you interested along the way. Note that when I walked the trail on 16.03.14, the Dunmore Wood section by the river is almost impassable due to fallen trees (at least 20!) However, as can be seen from thr route-map, this is easily bypassed.

Leafy Loops is a beautiful trail with a great mixture of woodland paths, country roads, and river banks. Some great scenery along the way too. Although it is 23 k It is by no means a tough walk and suitable for all walkers. A pack of maps which includes the Leafy Loops among others is available at the Copper Kettle which was open for breakfast when we arrived just after 8 am. Lovely way to start a great walk in beautiful countryside . I would give this walk 5 stars for sure.

The leafy loops is actually a series of smaller walks which all together make up the larger loop of 21.6 km. In pieces it can easily be done by families. Sections can be done with buggies including Dunmore wood, just off the N77 to the north of Durrow village. The entire loop takes you through woodland, some native ancient woodland and other planted sections. It follows the banks of the river Nore and Erkina, some minor roads, woodland trails and hill paths. It really gives a variety of flora, fauna, countryside, waterways and woodland in a relatively small footprint around the beautiful village of Durrow. The map booklet can be purchased for a small fee from the local shop in Durrow village and there is now an app for your iphone to talk you through it, just to ensure you don't get lost! It's a great stop off from your journey, not far from the new motorway. exit Cullohill/Johnstown or Rathdowney/Abbeyleix.
