We drove to Abbeyleix to walk the bog trails this week. We started at the hotel but discovered we were walking in the wrong direction! We found 20 +wild flowers including sundew and bog rosemary and heard the cuckoo frequently and spotted another 30+ or more birds and many species of butterflies and dragonflies. We walked the outer walk and some of the inner board walks. It was excellent but it would be so useful to have maps of the walks ,please?

A group of us travelled to Abbeyleix today as we have heard a lot of positive feedback from fellow walkers about this loop. What a treat and what an amenity, we had a fabulous walk and even heard the cuckoo. The loop is suitable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness and the boards give great access out onto the open bog. The trail is well marked, well done to all involved in this great project.
