ILGU - Lamb wins as Wilson tied sixth at British Stroke Play

ILGU -

Annabel Wilson (Luragn) looked like she was vying for the title as she turned through the ninth in her final round at the Ladies British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Wilson had a flawless front nine which included birdies on the 4th, 5th and 8th but she found trouble on the back nine as she dropped five shots. She carded her only double bogey of the week on the 16th and signed for a +2 75. She will however be happy with her impressive performance as she prepares for the World Amateur Team Championships in Mexico in ten days’ time.

England’s Sophie Lamb lifted the trophy after final rounds of 72 and 74. She was two clear of closest competitor, Chloe Williams (Wales). Overnight leader Alessia Nobilio (Italy) shot her only over par round of the week during the final as she carded a 79, which saw her finish in a tie for third.

Jessica Ross (Clandeboye) carded a steady final round 74 to finish in a tie for 8th place, just two behind Wilson. Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) shot a disappointing 81 in her third round but came out fighting in round four and carded a -2 71 to finish in a tie for 17th.  Round one leader, Mairead Martin (Killarney) shot a final round 84 for a tie of 33rd and fellow club member Valerie Clancy closed with a 78 for a 38th place finish.

The Team Award / Nations Cup was won by Italy with a 2 round total of 293, represented by Alessia Nobilio, Caterina Don and Clara Manzalini. In close 2nd place with 294, England, represented by Gemma Clews, Samantha Giles and Sophie Lamb.  3rd Place was Ireland, represented by Niamh McSherry, Chloe Ryan and Jessica Ross.  4th place Wales on 300 represented by Chloe Williams, Georgia Lewis and Bethan Morris and in 5th place, Scotland, represented by Shannon McWilliam, Chloe Goadby and Hannah McCook.
