Irish Institute of Sport - Sparking Performance Forum
Wednesday 25th September 2013
Aviva Stadium
On Wednesday 25th September the Irish Institute of Sport (IIS) hosted a group of performance directors from a multitude of Irish sports at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin. Set against this magnificent sporting backdrop the Sparking Performance Forum served as a platform for performance leaders to meet and exchange the challenges, opportunities and developments within their sports.
The day opened with an introduction from IIS Director Gary Keegan and Performance Director Phil Moore. Developments and updates were presented by Gary and Phil on IIS programmes and this was followed by a discussion around a number of topics driven and shaped by the PD’s. The topics covered ranged from effective internal and external communication strategies, to more specific aspects of interest such as talent identification structures and developments in performance analysis. The discussion around these areas was both lively and engaging, with a sense of community and peer support beginning to develop even at this early stage.

Aviva Stadium - Sparking Performance Meeting Location
This meeting follows on from the initial Sparking Performance Forum held at the IIS. The aim of this opening session held in late July was to present the Institute’s thinking regarding the area of people development, with specific attention to the role and development support requirements of the PD. The commitment and enthusiasm shown by all involved signals the beginning of a journey that it is anticipated will provide an invaluable community and support structure for performance directors. The next Sparking Performance PD Forum is due to take place early next year and expectations are high coming off the back of these stimulating and engaging meetings. A special word of thanks also to Scott Walker and the IRFU for hosting the forum at the impressive Aviva Stadium.
