The Angling Council of Ireland (ACI) is the governing body for the sport of angling throughout the island or Ireland. Recognised by Sport Ireland in representing the three key disciplandines of Sea Angling, and Coarse Angling, Game and Pike/Predator Angling. Each has its own representative body with International teams representing Ireland on the world stage as well as running national, provincial and open championships in Ireland.

In Northern Ireland, Sport NI recognises ACI federations as NGB'S for Sea, Coarse and Predator Angling, while NIFFA is acknowledged as being responsible to represent NI in international game angling competition

Affiliation to FIPSed and CIPS allows ACI Federations to attract International World Championship events to Ireland. They successfully hosted the 4th FIPSed World Feeder Fishing Championships on Inniscarra Lake, Co. Cork in July 2014 where the National Coarse Fishing Federation's NCFFI Team Garbolino attained the first silver medal for Ireland. As such ACI plays an active role in the promotion of angling tourism in Ireland working with Failte Ireland, Inland Fisheries Ireland IFI, DCAL Inland Fisheries and the Loughs Agency.

The ACI is a member of the European Angling Alliance EAA a pan-European organisation for recreational angling, which promotes European recreational anglers interests at European level and beyond.

The ACI's vision for Irish angling starts with Junior development and the ACI will roll out 30 junior angling hubs in 2015 working with partners in the community.

ACI coach tutors have developed a comprehensive coach education programme to support growth at both international and local level. The delivery of this programme is integrated with AFYDI hub development. This helps to guarantee the quality of our programme nationally.
