Irish Sports Council's Adventure Activities Working Group


Terms of Reference

The adventure activities working group has been established to assist the Council to define the scope and application of the registration system, and the standards to be applied. This will include the following:


1. Defining the Scope:

a) Advising the Council on the best practice definition of Adventure Activity for the purposes of the registration system.
b) Providing the Council with expert professional advice on the merits of including certain adventure activities within scope of the registration system.
c) Assisting the Council gather available data on the size of the Adventure Activities sector in Ireland.
d) Advising the Council in undertaking a high level risk profiling of each potential adventure activity to be considered. This will include assisting the Council in gathering data on the accident and incident history in the adventure activity sector.


2. Developing the Standards:

a) Assisting the Council develop the standards which adventure providers would have to meet to be eligible for inclusion on a register.


3. Implementing the system:

a) Advising the Council on a range of options and approaches to implementing a robust safety system (including approaches to carrying out any inspections function) and examining the costs that would apply.


4. Acting in an advisory role to the Council throughout the full process.
